The very best of Italy has come to Brighton with the grand opening of acclaimed cook and author, Antonio Carluccio’s celebrated caffé last week.
Part of the stunning Jubilee Street development, located a stone’s throw away form The Theatre Royal and other key attractions, Carluccio’s is destined to be Brighton’s latest hot spot. Striking and modern, its fabulous combination of contemporary Italian caffé, alimentari food shop and deli offers a genuine Italian tasting experience.
A light and airy space with an arresting glass wall spanning the entire length of the venue, Carluccio’s blends minimalist chrome features with a palette of vibrant colours, including eye-catching red banquette seating. Accommodating eighty-eight people inside and twenty-eight for alfresco dining, Carluccio’s is open throughout the day for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch or a delicious dinner and welcomes shoppers and dinners alike with all the style and passion normally associated with Italy.
Start your day with one of two bespoke blends of coffee, the robust Neapolitan or smoother Milano, each exclusively roasted for Carluccio’s. For the ultimate Italian breakfast, enjoy options including uova e funghi (free-range scrambled eggs with sautéed mushrooms on toasted ciabatta) or a Carluccio’s breakfast bread tin (freshly baked croissant and toasted breads with butter and Carluccio’s own Italian jam or honey).
Carluccio’s lunch and dinner menu boasts a range of authentic dishes created by Antonio and featuring the freshest ingredients, where possible sourced directly from Italy. Enjoy a heart-warming penne giardiniera (Carluccio’s very own Pugliese penne with courgette, chilli and deep fried spinach balls with parmesan and garlic); calzoncini (two traditional folded, deep fried pastries filled with Sicilian aubergine stew and melting mozzarella); bistecca di bue con patate (chargrilled ribeye steak with rosemary potatoes and marinated peppers; and pesce spada muddica (grilled swordfish covered with parmesan, parsley and breadcrumbs and served with green bean salad). Lighter plates of tempting antipasti and typically Italian salads including the perennially popular insalata di mozzarella are also available.
Desserts include Italian favourites such as a decadent tiramisu, a creamy panna cotta as well as Carluccio’s luxurious tartufo di cioccolato (chocolate truffle pudding) and classic cassata Siciliana (a Sicilian ice cream dessert with a delicious pistachio cream.)
Succumb to Carluccio’s colourful window display and enjoy a cornucopia of fantastic fresh food and store cupboard items to take home. A selection of fresh salamis, cheese, salads, olives, tarts, bakery items as well as a delectable range of meals to take-away are available at the hot and cold deli counters and are ideal for meals on the go or last-minute dinner plans. Alternatively, delicious food products including the highest quality infused oils, pastas, preserves, sauces, handmade sweets and chocolates, all chosen by Antonio and his wife Priscilla on extensive buying trips to Italy, can be found in the tempting food shop and will help you create a genuine taste of Italy at home or act as the perfect gifts for foodie friends.
Carluccio’s – a little bit of Italy by the English seaside!
